London, 1 November 2006 – Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) today launched Google Apps for Your Domain (http://www.google.com/a) in sixteen additional languages: French, Italian, German, Spanish, Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, Finnish, Swedish, Russian, Chinese-Simplified, Chinese-Traditional, Korean, Japanese, Portuguese, and Turkish. Google Apps for Your Domain is a service hosted entirely by Google that enables organizations to deliver high quality email, calendar and chat to their users – all branded with their own logos or color schemes – without the cost and hassle of installing and maintaining hardware and software.
Over time, Google will offer new versions tailored to meet the needs of a variety of different kinds of organizations – from family websites and community groups to voluntary groups and small businesses, as well as universities, large enterprises, and ISPs. Google Apps for Your Domain currently includes Gmail, Google Talk, Google Calendar, and Google Page Creator.
Domain administrators use a web-based control panel to manage their user account list, set up aliases and distribution lists, and enable the services they want for their domain. End users with accounts that have been set up by their administrator simply browse to customized login pages on any web-connected computer. The services can accommodate growing user bases and storage needs while drastically reducing maintenance costs.
Organizations will have a choice of two services:
“Organizations of all sizes face a common challenge – helping their users communicate and share information more effectively,” said Dave Girouard, vice president and general manager, enterprise, at Google. “A hosted service like Google Apps for Your Domain is great for small or medium sized companies – and all sorts of other organizations – because it makes it cheap and easy to maintain their communications infrastructure.”
